Unidentified body found outside IRS office in Hickory, police say

HICKORY, N.C. — Police said the body of a man was found Monday afternoon outside the IRS office in Hickory.

Officers said someone found the man dead near a side entrance to the building on Third Avenue Lane Southeast. The man, who has not been identified, is believed to be between 45 and 55 years. The man had tattoos on his upper body, salt and pepper colored hair and an unkempt beard.

A medical examiner and detectives were at the scene investigating. Police have not said how long the person has been there or if foul play was involved.

A sign at the entrance of the IRS office said employees are working remotely because of the pandemic.

Foul play is not suspected in the man’s death.
