Student, 17, accused of making fake bomb threat at Hickory Ridge HS

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — The Cabarrus County sheriff confirmed to Channel 9 that an arrest has been made in connection with a bomb threat at Hickory Ridge High School earlier this week.

Jordyn Levinson, 17, is charged with making a false bomb threat report, which is a felony. Eyewitness News anchor Allison Latos was told that Levinson is a student at Hickory Ridge.

Detectives said they were able to find evidence in her home and linked her writing to the writing on the note. They said Levinson also took sole responsibility for writing the fake threat.

Students at the school in Harrisburg were evacuated after the threat was found in the girl's bathroom, according to officials with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.

Parents said they had seen the threat circulating online and it read: "There's a bomb in the school. Can't find it? You will soon enough. Let's make another Parkland High School. Good luck."

"It's heartbreaking,” said one mother, Amanda Townsend. “It's horrible that you now end up spending your days and time just mortified, just worried that you can't even send your kid to school."

"To have this happen here, you never think that you're going to be one of these parents but today -- and I know my girls are safe -- but that feeling did just show up with me and it shouldn't be happening in the U.S. It should not be happening," said another mother, Requelle Mincey.

Deputies said they completed a security sweep and nothing was found.

The Cabarrus sheriff said the local threats aren't just terrifying, they're also disruptive for everyone from law enforcement agencies to teachers and students to working parents.
