11-year-old boy says he was shot at while waiting for school bus

CHARLOTTE — An 11-year-old boy said someone started shooting at him while he was waiting for a school bus Monday morning on Rollingwood Drive near Fieldcrest and Clanton roads in southwest Charlotte.

“Innocent kids, you know, going to school, trying to get an education,” neighbor James Covington told Channel 9.

Covington didn’t see or hear anything, but he said he couldn’t imagine who would shoot at the boy.

“It’s a quiet neighborhood,” Covington said. “Everybody gets along, so it had to be from another neighborhood or something.”

The boy told police that at about 7:15 a.m., someone walking through the neighborhood shot at him.

His mother has been in contact with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

A nearby resident, who did not want to be on camera, said there was a gunshot Monday morning.

Police have not said if they are looking for anyone.

The boy was not injured.
