Brothers venture into ‘untapped market' to bring east Charlotte neighborhood its first brewery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This brewery expects to open in southeast Charlotte’s MoRA neighborhood this fall.

Brothers Jared and John Thomas expect to invest roughly $600,000 to bring their vision for Edge City Brewery to life.

It will be located in the Meridian Place development, near Hawthorne’s Pizza, at 6209 Old Post Road. That’s across from East Mecklenburg High School.

MoRA refers to the Monroe Road area between Charlotte’s Oakhurst neighborhood and Matthews.

“We saw an untapped market,” says Jared, the head brewmaster.

The brothers will pull from their educational backgrounds to support the business. John, who has a master’s degree in entrepreneurship, will handle operations. Jared attended brewing school in Asheville and has a degree in fermentation science theory. Mandii Green of Belles Creative will be assisting in the marketing and advertising efforts.

“It’s going to be challenging, but we’re passionate about it,” Jared says.
