Busted water main closes Highway 74 near Monroe

MONROE, N.C. — A water main break has a busy road near Monroe closed Thursday morning.

Officials said both eastbound lanes of Highway 74 are closed near the intersection of Old Highway 74 as crews work to repair the busted water main.

A detour has been put in place for drivers to take Old Highway 74 to Pageland Highway back to Highway 74.

Officials did not say how long it would take to make repairs but the North Carolina Department of Transportation estimated the road to reopen around 4 p.m. Thursday.
