Investigators told Channel 9 that a tractor-trailer was heading south on South Tryon Street when a white pickup truck tried to turn in front of it and was hit.
The impact caused the pickup truck to also hit an empty building and brought down traffic lights at the intersection of Steelecroft Parkway.
The drivers of both vehicles, as well as a passenger in the tractor-trailer, were taken to the hospital, but police said they would be OK.
