Double murder suspect accused in Caldwell County drive-by shooting

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Nearly two years after a double murder suspect bonded out of jail, police said he was involved in a drive-by shooting.

Police said Horizons Elementary in Lenoir was placed on lockdown around 3 p.m. Monday after a shooting at a home on Arlington Circle.

Police arrested three men including Daniel Minton, who is accused of firing repeatedly into the home, hitting one person inside. The victim was rushed to a hospital, but their condition is unknown.

Witnesses told Channel 9's Dave Faherty they could hear the shots from their homes.

"Bullet ain't got no names on them, honey," neighbor Ko-Ko Myers said.

Minton was out of jail after being accused of killing Janarion Knox and  Branique McKnight in a high-profile 2017 double murder in Hickory.

Carlos Walker is the father of Knox, who was shot and killed at the Ridgecrest Apartments.

At the time of the murders, police released a surveillance photo of Minton at the apartment complex.

After Minton's arrest for the murders, Walker said he never thought Minton would be released, but a judge set his bond at $500,000, and he was out of jail until his trial.

"They shouldn't have given him a bond the first time," Walker said.

It's unclear what led to Monday's drive-by shooting, but police told Channel 9 they've already alerted prosecutors about Minton's involvement.
