Truck lands on propane tank after crashing into Union County home

MONROE, N.C. — Deputies are investigating after a pickup truck crashed into a Union County home Thursday morning along Highway 601 near Lawyers Road, north of Monroe.

Officials said the wreck happened just before 7:30 a.m. and that the truck actually came to rest on top of a propane tank.

Deputies said nobody was home at the time but that the driver was hurt. Troopers think he may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

The truck hit the home at close to 70 mph, according to investigators, causing roughly $50,000 in damage.

The southbound lane of Highway 601 was blocked while crews worked to remove the car from the home.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash but said the driver will be charged with careless and reckless driving.
