Catawba Indian Nation speaks out about opposition to casino

CATAWBA, N.C. — The Catawba Indian Nation is speaking out on the governor's opposition to a casino in Cleveland County.

On Friday, Gov. McCrory joined other lawmakers by saying he had not heard an argument that justifies building the casino.

The Catawba Indian Nation said the casino would include an entertainment-style resort with hotels, restaurants and shopping, bringing up to 4,000 jobs with it.

Earlier this week, the Catawba Indian Nation filed an application with federal officials to build the resort.

In a statement sent to Eyewitness News, the Catawba Indian Nation said, "We believe this project will bring great economic benefit to the state, our Nation and the Cleveland County region. I encourage the Governor to let the federal government review the process and not to dismiss the value 4,000 new jobs brings to North Carolina."
