• CATS to operate new routes, increase fares

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Changes are coming to the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus routes to serve the opening of the new Charlotte Premium Outlets.

Route 55 Westinghouse will now operate service to the outlet stores for employees starting June 30. On July 31 when the outlets open to the public, shoppers will also be able to utilize this route to avoid traffic and parking.

The routes are not the only thing changing, CATS will implement a fare increase on July 1. Local fare will rise to $2.20 for a one-way ride. The fares of other CATS services will be adjusted accordingly. This will be the first fare increase since July 2012.
