CATS rolls out ‘Rapid Routes’ to uptown from Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius

Most people are always looking for a faster way to get into uptown Charlotte -- especially those commuters coming down from towns like Huntersville, Davidson and Cornelius.

Starting Monday, CATS is rolling out its new "Rapid Routes" in north Mecklenburg County, which will allow buses to travel on Interstate 77 using the toll lanes.

In addition to the Huntersville express route on Statesville Road near Gilead Road, there are three other routes from northern Mecklenburg County, including Northcross express, Northlake express, and North Mecklenburg express from Davidson and Cornelius.

CATS officials said staff plans to study the new rapid bus transit over the next 12 to 18 months. If it proves successful, they'll look at where they could expand the service in Charlotte.
