CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In light of the attempted terror attack Monday morning at the Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan, local officials are stepping up security in Charlotte.

Channel 9 confirmed that CATS is increasing security Monday and the public can expect to see a number of officers patrolling the transit center in uptown for the foreseeable future.

"I noticed there was one (officer) at every checkpoint," rider Johnny Bailey said.

While some passengers said they were glad more officers were stationed near the transit center, some told Channel 9 they're concerned that such a place could still be a target.

“It’s scary really to think about that,” Anthony Moore said. “The stuff you see all the time around the world, but it’s hitting close to home. It’s in the states. It’s kind of scary.”

CATS released the following statement in response to the added security:

"We have increased patrols and continue to monitor traffic in and around transit centers and train platforms. We ask the public to help us keep our transit system safe. If you see something, say something."

CATS officials are asking everyone to keep an eye open for anything out of the ordinary. They said they're well-aware that terrorist groups want to hit so-called soft targets like the transit center.

Officials are asking everyone to remain vigilant, especially during the holidays.
