CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Loomis Fargo worker robbed at gunpoint at ATM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for two men who robbed a Loomis Fargo employee at gunpoint in Matthews Thursday.

Officers said the Loomis Fargo worker was servicing an ATM around noon at the Bank of America branch in the 10060 block of Independence Boulevard when two men walked up and pointed handguns at him.

Surveillance photos show a robber's pistol pointed inches from the Loomis Fargo worker's face.

"That's absolutely ruthless, and they just don't have no heart,” said a man who regularly uses the ATM.

The standalone machine is a plaza parking lot that stays busy.

The photos also show the Loomis van parked behind the employee.

"They come in from each side like that in his blind spot. That's hard for anybody to overcome,” said Tim Aycock, with the Matthews Police Department.

Investigators have not said how much money the thieves stole.

The robbers are described as black, possibly in their 20s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing black hoodies and blue jeans. One of the men had dreadlocks.

After robbing the driver, the men ran into some nearby woods. CMPD’s helicopter unit, as well as K-9s, tried to track the men, but they are still at large.

The driver was not hurt during the crime.

Matthews police officers said the Loomis Fargo worker was smart not to pull his gun.

"When another person puts a gun in your face, that's definitely a wake-up call," Aycock said.

Police are worried about how bold the two robbers were.

The men not only committed a daring crime in daylight with guns, but they were willing to take on an armed guard.

"That takes it to a whole other level of concern for us,” Aycock said. “The seriousness of it is they could be in some type of gun battle, so that's obviously very important for us to get them off the street."

If anyone has any information regarding this case, they are asked to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 704-847-5555.
