• Chamber of Commerce proclamation aims to keep Panthers in Charlotte


    CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Chamber of Commerce is making an effort to keep the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte after owner Jerry Richardson put the team up for sale.

    The Chamber issued a Panthers Proclamation, which details the importance of the team in the Queen City, including the economic impact.

    The team and NFL are investigating Richardson for workplace misconduct.


    Charlotte Chamber Proclamation of Appreciation and Support to keep the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte.

    Whereas, the Carolina Panthers were created in the Carolinas, for the Carolinas and are a foundational asset to this community, and

    Whereas, being an NFL city is a differentiator in attracting talent, jobs and investment to our region and

    Whereas, the Panthers provide tremendous economic value to the local and regional economies; hotels, restaurants and countless small businesses benefit from the patronage and sales including not-for-profit groups that earn millions of dollars annually for their organizations in concession sales, and

    Whereas, the franchise employs 200 direct staff and is responsible for the creation of nearly 6,400 permanent jobs for the region, and

    Whereas, the team has donated more than $14 million to local charities since its inception, and

    Whereas, the Charlotte region and the Carolina Panthers share the values of building the community through jobs, education, economic opportunity and supporting fragile communities, and

    Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Charlotte Chamber does hereby proclaim its appreciation for all that the Carolina Panthers do to help make the Charlotte region the very best that it can be for ALL;

    Furthermore, the chamber proclaims its unwavering support of the franchise while celebrating Charlotte's incredible first 20 years as an NFL city;

    And we do hereby pledge to continue the tradition with a new ownership group
