Changes after volunteer fire chief pleads guilty to embezzlement

MINT HILL, N.C. — Mint Hill’s former volunteer fire chief pled guilty to embezzlement.

Jeremy Russell pled guilty Tuesday to embezzling more than $225,000, which investigators said he used to support a gambling habit.

Mint Hill’s town manager said Wednesday he plans to talk with the Mint Hill fire department about the audit control and other issues identified during the investigation.
