ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — The charges against a man accused in a 2018 murder in Rowan County have been dismissed.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that the charges against Witt Darnell Alexander were dismissed after information surfaced that potentially supported an alibi for him.
Alexander was charged in the shooting death of Mariah Nicole Turner and her unborn child.
Deputies said Turner was trying to prevent a home invasion when she was shot through the door of her home on Long Street in Salisbury on June 24, 2018.
Investigators had said a witness put Alexander at the scene of the crime. But Channel 9 reported back in July that a search of camera footage around the EpiCentre suggests that he may have been in Charlotte at the time.
The Sheriff’s Office said it’s still investigating Turner’s death. Officials said Alexander is still considered a potential suspect but would not comment further.
