Charlotte-bound flight makes emergency landing after smoke in cockpit

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Smoke in a plane's cockpit forced a Charlotte-bound US Airways flight to make an emergency landing in the desert.

US Airways told Channel 9 the passengers should be back home Tuesday morning.

The airline said the flight took off from Las Vegas Monday morning, but landed in Phoenix.

A fire spokesman said passengers and crew complained about dizziness and lightheadedness.

Paramedics tended to six crew members at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

One passenger was taken to the hospital.
