Charlotte businessman announces run for mayor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte businessman told Channel 9 he plans to enter the race to become Charlotte's next mayor.

Scott Stone will become the first Republican to enter the race.

He says he'll make a formal announcement soon.

Stone also ran for mayor in 2011 but lost to Anthony Foxx.

Channel 9 asked him what's different this time.

"Well, I'm not running against an incumbent mayor. That's an important point," Stone said. "The support we're getting so far the enthusiasm for the campaign, it's a very different feel this year than it was four years ago."

Restoring trust in the local government is one of his most important issues, Stone said.

Stone will join other well-known Charlotte figures who have already entered the race including former County Commissioner Jennifer Roberts, Councilman-at-large David Howard, Mayor Pro Tem Michael Barnes and current Mayor Dan Clodfelter.
