Charlotte debates return of red light cameras after 20-year hiatus

Red lights

CHARLOTTE — City leaders in Charlotte discussed a plan to install red light cameras at 10 intersections across the area Monday night.

According to a proposed one-year pilot program, running a red light at those intersections may soon cost you $75.

Leaders say it will cost the city $5,000 a month per intersection.

There is no word on when the city will vote.

If the proposal passes, it will mark the end of a 20-year hiatus for the camera program.
