Charlotte Douglas to temporarily close runway for taxiway construction

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Beginning April 1, reconstruction on portions of a taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport will close one runway, according to airport officials.

Officials said the project will require occasional night-time closures of two other runways.

During this time, officials said the Federal Aviation Administration will reroute aircraft to the airport’s alternate runways.

Because of the runway closures, officials said surrounding neighborhoods north and south of the parallel runways will experience overhead flights between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Jean Dolschenko said her son lives nearby and will most likely be affected by the noise, but he’s already made adjustments to his house to block it.

"They put double windows in and double doors in there because of the noise of planes going over it,” Dolschenko said.

The repair work is expected to take approximately seven months and to be completed by Thanksgiving.
