Charlotte group organizes Thanksgiving Day lunch at Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Park

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People all over Charlotte are celebrating Thanksgiving in different ways today. One group gathered outdoors at the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Park, a few blocks east of Beatties Ford Road.

The United Council for Change organized the meal. They told Channel 9′s Elsa Gillis it was important for them to hold the meal on Thanksgiving Day, so that those who don’t have food or company have somewhere to go.

They said they had to take masks and social distancing into consideration because of COVID-19, but they wanted to make sure everyone in the neighborhood could enjoy a turkey dinner if they needed it.

“We are going make sure you have a good time, and then you get to go home and spend some time with your family. And for those that don’t have family, we’ll be your family today,” said Larry Mims with the United Council for Change.
