Charlotte Knights lock in concessions vendor as ballpark awaits new name

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When it comes to feeding baseball fans, the Charlotte Knights are sticking with a tried-and-true recipe. The team’s chief operating officer told CBJ the minor-league team has just wrapped up negotiations on a three-year extension with concessionaire Professional Sports Catering.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The contract begins next season. Professional Sports Catering began providing food service at the uptown ballpark in 2017, replacing Spectra.

At the same time, another business decision noticeable to fans — the name of the ballpark — remains uncertain.

The Knights play at BB&T BallPark in uptown Charlotte, which opened in 2014. The BB&T name will soon go away as the Winston-Salem-based bank is merging with Atlanta’s SunTrust as part of a $66 billion deal scheduled to close at the end of 2019. The merged entity, to be called Truist, will have its headquarters in Charlotte.
