Which 3 Charlotte spots made the list of worst tractor-trailer bottlenecks in US?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Everyone knows traffic in Charlotte can be tricky, especially with so many tractor-trailers on the interstates -- and now three interchanges in Charlotte have made the annual list of top 100 congested bottlenecks for trucks in America.

The American Transportation Research Institute said Interstate 85 at Interstate 485 in west Charlotte made the list at No. 56.

Interstate 77 AT I-485 in south Charlotte was next, and I-77 near Lake Norman ranked 96 out of 100.

The worst interchange in the country? Interstate 95 and State Route 4 in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and Nashville each had interchanges in the top 10.

“This report should sound the alarm for policymakers that the cost of doing nothing is too high, and provide a roadmap of where to target investments to really solve our nation’s mounting infrastructure crisis,” said American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear.

The company said the number of interchanges with significant congestion has increased by 92% in five years.

The analysis, based on truck GPS data from over 1 million heavy-duty trucks, uses several customized software applications.
