Family ID's Charlotte man who drowned in Catawba Co. pond

CATAWBA COUNTY — A 39-year-old Charlotte man drowned while fishing with a relative at Murray's Mill pond in Catawba County on Sunday afternoon.

Family members identified the victim to Channel 9 as Richard Cain.

Cain's father said he and his cousin were fishing when the boat capsized.

One man was able to swim to land but Cain didn't resurface from the water.

Help was called and several agencies responded, including a dive team.

Divers found the man's body in the water at approximately 1:15 p.m.

The drowning remains under investigation.
