Wanted Charlotte man arrested in NY on sex crime warrants

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — (AP) — A North Carolina man wanted on three open warrants for sex crimes has been apprehended on New York's Long Island.

Police in Nassau County say Dwayne Mccluney was arrested in a Hempstead home by investigators from the fugitive squad and U.S. Marshalls at 7:20 a.m. Friday.

The 36-year-old Charlotte man was wanted on warrants for statutory rape, indecent liberties with a child and sex offense-parental role.

He was in custody Friday and unavailable for comment. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.

Police in New York and North Carolina couldn't say for how long Mccluney had been wanted. A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police spokesman says Mccluney was accused of sexually assaulting a child in a complaint filed Nov. 15, 2011.

The Mecklenburg County district attorney's office declined comment.
