Police: 17-year-old on dirt bike killed after colliding with car in Mint Hill

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after responding to a deadly crash involving a dirt bike and another vehicle near Interstate 485 in Mint Hill.

The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. on the I-485 Inner off-ramp and Blair Road.

Officers said a 17-year-old was driving a dirt bike that did not have lights and the dirt bike hit a car that was turning from the I-485 ramp to Blair Road.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said they were not wearing a helmet and dirt bikes are not allowed to be on the roads.

This comes after five people were killed and three others were hurt Friday night in a crash on I-485 near Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte.

Hours after that crash, a trooper was critically hurt in another crash. State Trooper Adolfo Lopez-Alcedo was part of an investigative group back out on I-485 following up on Friday’s crash.

Troopers said Lopez-Aledo was outside his patrol cruiser and starting to shut down the outer loop of I-485 when another car hit his cruiser, causing the cruiser to his him.
