MONROE, N.C. — American Bank & Trust of Monroe — the state’s first community bank to open in a decade — opened its doors on Monday.

“We’re all excited about opening. We’ve got 18 employees that all have a community bank mindset to keep our customers’ best interest (in mind),” said Chief Executive Randy Adcock. “We don’t just talk the talk; we walk the walk.”

American Bank & Trust has its main office at 3302 U.S. Highway 74 West in Monroe. Renovations are underway at a second location at 3806 U.S. Highway 74 East in Wingate. Organizers hope to open that location in June.

A group of 12 Union County business leaders, including Adcock, announced plans in February 2018 to form a de novo bank. The term “de novo” refers to a newly chartered bank founded independently of any other financial institution.
