Deputies arrest man after standoff ends in Chester County

FORT LAWN S.C. — Chester County Sheriff’s deputies and SLED have taken a man into custody after a standoff that began at 3 a.m. Saturday in Fort Lawn.

Deputies were called out to Hightower Rd after a gun was fired. Then, Gerald Williams, Jr. barricaded himself in what deputies said was an armed standoff. Nobody else was involved and nobody was hurt when the gun was shot.

Deputies had asked that people in the area stay inside their homes.

Williams was safely taken into custody just before noon Saturday. He will be charged with Resisting Arrest with a Deadly Weapon.

The sheriff’s office says other charges are pending.

Law enforcement officers remained in the area to conduct their investigation, but they said the Hightower Road area is safe.
