Boot print found on man who died after apparent assault at club

MCBEE, S.C. — A family is seeking justice after a Chesterfield County man walked out of a club and later died in bed Saturday morning.

Sheriff's investigators believe Sean Wright, 31, could have been killed. The coroner said he is investigating the suspicious death as a homicide.

"We just want justice. Justice for my brother. He didn't deserve this," Wright’s sister Julie Wright said.

On Friday night, Wright went to a small club known as The Village Inn on Walnut Street in McBee. It's got a few pool tables, but no liquor license and is also a barbershop.

It appears Wright was attacked there but managed to make it to a relative's home before he died the next morning, officials said. His sister found him having a seizure and struggling to breathe, according to the incident report.

Emergency room doctors told deputies that they saw what looked like a boot print on Wright's chest and evidence of a head injury.

At his mother's home, he complained of a severe headache and had trouble getting through the door. Hours later, he was dead.

"I didn't think nobody could do that to him. He was a good person," Julie Wright said.

She and his mother, Brenda, had seen him only hours earlier and everything seemed OK.

It's not known what happened at the club, or why he was assaulted.

His uncle, Jamie Wright, said the family is still in shock.

"You go from laughing, talking, seeing him, to watching nurses take him off life support," he said. "It really is a shocker."

On Monday, Channel 9 met family members at their home. They are waiting for any information from sheriff's investigators.

"Anybody that was there at the club when he was there that saw him, somebody just come forward," Wright’s cousin Jennifer Harper said.

An autopsy is not expected until Wednesday. Investigators hope that will help them determine the cause of death.
