Child struck by car while riding bicycle

KANNAPOLIS — The Kannapolis Police Department is investigating after a child was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

Neighbors said the accident happened outside the child's home, near the intersection of West A and Circle streets.

"The little boy was riding his bike and didn't see the car," said one neighbor who was outside his home when the accident happened and called 911. "I think he turned into the car's path."

Investigators haven't released any further details on the accident. 

The child was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. The extent of the child's injuries is also unclear.

"The impact knocked him out but then he started crying," explained the neighbor.
