Bladen County citizens wondering if their votes counted in past elections

BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. — Dozens of people filled a Bladenboro church Tuesday night as groups held a town hall to talk with voters in the 9th District.

Bladen County citizens are concerned about the allegations of election fraud in their county.

The progressive group Progress NC and the NAACP teamed up with a local church to have the public forum.

Speakers included candidates who ran for office during the controversial cycle and residents are worried their votes during those elections may not have counted.

“I'm standing tonight so my children, my great-grandchildren, my grandchildren, so forth and so on, may have the opportunity to vote and their votes will count,” voter Linda Baldwin said.

“Let’s stand for justice, and I told somebody before, we don't want patty-cake justice, we want swift justice,” former Democratic Sheriff candidate Hakeem Brown said.

Voting rights experts were on hand to answer any questions.

The next major step in the process is the evidentiary hearing, which is when the state will lay out all of its evidence and a new election could potentially be ordered.

The hearing date is set for Jan. 11.
