Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump decided to postpone respective trips to Charlotte, North Carolina, as protests continue for the forth night.

Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts said in an interview with CNN that Clinton and Trump should delay their trips to the city since the city's security resources are stretched thin after nights of protests.

"We appreciate the support of the candidates. We appreciate that they are concerned about Charlotte," Roberts told CNN. "At this point, we do have very stretched resources for security and they are working around the clock. If there would be a way to delay those visits in terms of giving us a chance to get our city back to order and back to more of a state of normalcy, that would probably be ideal."

CNN reported that Trump officials say they are no longer travelling to Charlotte. They originally planned a visit following the first presodential debate.

Clinton made the decison to delay her visit orignally planned for Sunday after meeting with community leaders. She is expected to visit the city Oct. 2.

Clinton's communications director released the following statement:

Hillary is grateful for, and intends to honor, the invitation from faith leaders to visit with the Charlotte community.

After further discussion with community leaders, we have decided to postpone Sunday's trip as to not impact the City's resources.

She will plan to visit Charlotte next Sunday, provided circumstances allow. In the meantime her prayers are with the people of Charlotte during these difficult days.
