CMPD arrest, charge suspect after bomb threat at Charlotte Epicenter

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested and charged a suspect after he initiated a bomb threat in the Charlotte Epicenter early Saturday morning.

Police said officers working secondary employment at the Epicenter were notified by G4S police that a male subject was causing a disturbance in the area and was making a threat, stating there was a bomb in a bag.

Officials said they were able to detain the subject and locate the suspect's bag inside the Epicenter.

Police said as a precaution, they evacuated the building while the bomb squad, Charlotte Fire, and MEDIC responded to the scene.

CMPD said bomb squad technicians used a robot to examine the suspicious bag and determined it was safe.

Officials identified the suspect as 29-year-old Rayshon Javor Duncan.

Police charged Duncan with perpetrating a hoax device and making a false bomb threat.

No other information has been released at this time.
