CMPD: Crash shuts down Providence Road in south Charlotte for hours

CHARLOTTE — A crash shut down Providence Road at Wendover Road in south Charlotte for hours early Thursday morning.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the crash happened around 1:30 a.m.

Channel 9′s Almiya White was live at the scene where a tractor-trailer and car had crashed, blocking the street. White said at the scene she didn’t see any power lines involved, but she did see heavy damage to the car involved, which had lost its bumper.

Officers with CMPD told White that the person in the heavily damaged car was taken to the hospital by MEDIC.

Around 6:00 a.m., officers and other officials began to clear and reopen Providence Road.

Police have not released the cause of the crash.
