• CMPD: Doctor charged with sexually assaulting patients

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Police in Charlotte have charged a doctor with sexually assaulting two of his patients, and they say he may have done the same to others.
Detectives arrested Dr. Fidelis Edosomwan with five counts of sexual assault on the two victims -- one at a clinic on Milton Road on Jan. 2, and the other at a clinic on West Sugar Creek Road on Jan. 14.

A sign on the door of the Americare Clinic on Milton Road said it was closed for an emergency Tuesday. A staffer at the clinic on West Sugar Creek Road said they could not comment on the allegations.

But on Tuesday police said they believe there may be other women who have not come forward.

“Both of the victims were at the doctor office to have routine exams done,” said Captain Cecil Brisbon outside police headquarters.

Brisbon said the details of the sexual assault are too graphic to discuss, but that the women did not know each other and came to police independently, leading them to believe there could be other women who were assaulted.

“You want to make sure that if you have someone committing these kinds of acts that those cases are investigated and they’re held accountable,” Brisbon said.

Edosomwan has entered an agreement to voluntary suspend his practice while the case is being investigated, but at least one of his former patients said she was stunned by the news.

Victoria, who did not give her last name, told Eyewitness News that she had been going to the clinic where he practiced for five years, and had seen him several times.

“I had an appointment and we had devotions, prayers and stuff like that.  So I'm shocked!  I am,” she said.
