CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sept. 5, 2018 UPDATE: Calvin Vance, Naytrone Adams and Tobias Partlow were charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the killing.

A man died in a west Charlotte shooting Sunday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

CMPD officials said police responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon just before 9:30 p.m. on Roadway Street near Bradford Drive. Upon arrival, officers said they found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound.

On Monday, CMPD identified the victim as 23-year-old Kenneth Bernard Edwards.

Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics said.

This is Charlotte's 81st homicide investigation this year.

CMPD officers said they were canvassing the area for evidence.

Investigators are working to find out what started the shooting, and if the shooter and the victim knew each other.

No arrests have been made.

30 homicide cases unsolved in Charlotte

For 30 families it has been the cruelest year on record in Charlotte. A loved one has been murdered and police have not gotten a break in their case.

"Tyshaud was his before he was mine. That's what I believe. You have to be strong and you have to have faith," Tyshaud Brown's mother, Adrian Harris, said.

Tyshaud Brown, 18, was killed behind Allenbrook Elementary School in March.

"Some says it's very hard. His birthday was July 10. That was an extremely hard day for me," Harris said.

Brown, Keith Nmoma and Jabari Stewart are three of the 30 homicide victims whose cases police have not been able to solve.

Nmoma got into a fight with his attacker and was shot and killed.

Stewart, one of the first victims of the year, was killed inside his home in January.

"I talked to him four minutes before he passed. He called me to rag on me on a Christmas gift I was supposed to give him. He never made it over," Anthony Warren, Stewart's brother-in-law, said.

Warren believes someone in the community has information on one of the 30 homicides that can make a difference.

"To think there is 30 other families, if not more, to be dealing with what we're dealing with -- the anguish is just ridiculous," Warren said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and to speak to a Homicide Unit detective or to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
