CMPD investigates shooting in parking lot of Habitat for Humanity Restore

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a shooting outside the Habitat for Humanity Restore in southeast Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.

Officers closed off the parking lot of the store on North Wendover Road.

Brandice Clemmons was inside nearby Julia’s Café and Books when gunfire erupted in the parking lot.

“I’ve been in there for a little bit now, so I didn’t see that going on,” Clemmons said.

Meanwhile, other customers were walking to and from their cars, and some employees were outside when the shooting happened.

Customer Tika Rai said he heard several gunshots and ran to see what was going on.

“I just see two cars come from that way. One went to the left. The other went to the right,” Rai said.

Police said both the man who was shot and the suspect drove off.

Officers then responded to the Naomi Drenan Recreation Center on Beal Street, less than a mile away.

They found a gray Infiniti with a man who had been shot inside.

Police said they believe the scenes are connected but are still investigating the circumstances.

Officers said the victim was in surgery but is expected to survive.
