CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two people are dead, a man is in custody and police are trying to figure out what led to a night of domestic violence at a north Charlotte home.

The investigation started around 1 a.m. when a couple found 25-year-old Deandre Olson lying on a driveway on Biesterfield Drive, near Beatties Ford Road. Police said he ran door-to-door, frantically looking for help and leaving a trail of blood before he finally collapsed.

Alexis Davis was one of the people who found him.

"He was laying on the ground in his blood, trying to, basically, roll over on his stomach," Davis said. "They checked his body to make sure there weren't any bullet wounds and all they found were stab wounds. Then they rushed him to the hospital and found the lady up the street."

Officers found 27-year-old Yesenia McMillon inside another home on Biesterfield Drive, suffering from obvious stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Olson died at the hospital.

A baby was also found inside the home but was unharmed.

Investigators told Channel 9 that around 1:08 a.m., officers responded to the Exxon gas station on Glenwood Drive, about 4 miles from the crime scene on Biesterfield Drive, after a man there called 911 saying he had just killed two people.

That suspect, 30-year-old Corey Shirly, was quickly taken into custody at the gas station and transported to CMPD headquarters, where he was charged with two counts of murder.

Police said that Shirly and McMillon were in a previous relationship and were calling the crime a case of domestic violence.

Investigators said the victims, McMillon and Olson, were friends and that they were not dating.

Quintaris Jordan came by the home later Friday morning to drop his daughter off. He told Channel 9 that McMillon ran a licensed daycare out of her home named Perfect Penguins123.

"It's crazy, it's crazy, unbelievable, I can't believe it, it's crazy. That's so crazy," Jordan said when he learned about the murders.

The deaths mark Charlotte 17th and 18th homicides of 2017.
