• CMPD: Man found shot, killed on Shady Lane


    CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A man was shot and killed at the 7500 block of Shady Lane in the Hickory Grove division, according to detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

    Police said they were responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 8:19 p.m.

    When officers arrived, they found a man who was suffering from a gunshot wound. Medic arrived and said the man had died. Police have identified the man as Willie Thomas Byars Jr.

    Channel 9 spoke with a couple who has family in the neighborhood and were looking to buy a house. They said they won't be shopping in this neighborhood.

    "I thought it was like a family neighborhood. You never know there are crazies everywhere. (You) got to protect yourself at all costs," said Henry Sams.

    Detectives with the Homicide Unit are canvassing the neighborhood to determine if anyone has any information that will aid in the investigation.
