Officers said a green Kia Sportage was traveling east in the right lane of The Plaza near Sweetbriar Street when the driver hit a man lying in the road just before midnight. The driver reportedly pulled into a nearby parking lot and called 911.

When officers got to the scene, officers said they found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Plaza was shut down in both directions as investigators canvassed the scene.

After the initial investigation, detectives said the driver was not impaired, but they suspect the victim had been drinking.

The victim was later identified as 41-year-old Eric Lee White.
