CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer helped a 15-year-old who was shot several times in east Charlotte, and helped lead to the arrest of two suspects.

On Wednesday at around 10:30 p.m., there were reports of shots fired near The Plaza and Eastway Drive. An officer nearby heard the gunshots and started searching the area for anyone hurt.

He then found the teen who had been shot on the ground heavily bleeding, police said. The officer applied tourniquets to the victim while he waiting on MEDIC to get to the scene.

Other officers were searching the area for the shooter when CMPD’s Real-Time Crime Center saw a silver car speeding away from the scene. The department’s Aviation Unit saw the car and directed officers where to go.

Police pulled over the car near Countryside Drive, and people jumped out and ran away. Officers were able to arrest two suspects who were juveniles, but did not find the other two.

The two juveniles were charged with attempted murder and taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
