CMPD officer released from hospital days after shootout

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer shot while trying to arrest a suspect was released from the hospital Monday morning.

Officer Shane Page was shot twice.

Page, who is a member of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, was shot by James Lewis during an arrest in Fort Mill last week, police said.

Page got a personal visit Monday from Gov. Pat McCrory, who said Page has worked on his security detail since he's become governor.

"I knew him and I knew his team," McCrory said. "And we're talking about next steps, any way we can help him."

Lewis is in jail in Mecklenburg County.
