CMPD searches for suspect who robbed south Charlotte bank at gunpoint

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said officers are looking for the suspect who robbed the Sharonview Federal Credit Union in south Charlotte Friday morning.

Police said the man walked into the bank on Park Road across from the Park Road Shopping Center around 9:30 a.m.

Police released photos of the suspect, who they said cocked a gun in the presence of one of the bank tellers.

The suspect was described as being shorter than 6 feet tall and having scruffy facial hair.

It’s unclear how much money he was able to make off with.

A worker from the credit union Rosalyn Hudson spoke with Channel 9's Mark Becker.

"We had an event at our branch this morning on Park Road. We had a robbery," Hudson said. "The staff did an amazing job. They did everything they were supposed to do. Everybody is safe."

A father of an employee Gregory Isaiah said his daughter was working behind the counter. He said after she called, he drove all the way from Florence, South Carolina to be here for her.

"All I could think was that he could've shot my daughter. Because she said he waved a gun in her face and everything. She was so upset," Isaiah said.

Tracy Martin and Leigh Ann Marra were working at the salon next door when the robbery happened and watched as police officers filled the parking lot of the credit union.

"We still have signs all over and we have cameras and stuff as well, so we try to stay protected," Martin said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call CrimeStoppers.
