CMS holds housing fair for teachers

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools held a housing fair for teachers on Saturday morning.

It’s part of the At Home in CMS initiative aimed at helping educators find their next home or rental in the Queen City.

Several partners and panelists offered advice to those seeking to upgrade their living conditions.

“This is an opportunity for us to help build their awareness and support them in a critical way that helps ensure that they stay working in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and know that the district they work for cares deeply about important things such as housing stability,” said Nancy Brightwell, the chief of recruitment, retention, and talent development.

At Home in CMS launched two months ago. It helps teachers get down payment assistance or find apartments below the market rate.

Last month, the district said more than 150 teachers were starting paperwork on the path to owning a home.
