CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools say 11 guns have been found inside schools this year.
District officials are still tallying the total number of weapons, including knives and stun guns, for the 2018-2019 school year.
After the deadly shooting last October inside Butler High School, CMS changed how it screens students in hopes of preventing guns from getting inside schools.
The district now randomly screens high school students using metal detectors and wands.
CMS has also updated locks and fencing and has given teachers panic cards.
