Protest planned for Duke Energy's decrease on solar-energy incentives

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Protesters will be in uptown Charlotte Monday morning to speak out against Duke Energy.

They say they are upset the company wants to reduce the amount it pays to people who use solar energy.

Greenpeace said standard lights can cause pollution and solar energy doesn't.

Protesters told Channel 9 by offering less money for solar energy; Duke Energy is sending the wrong message.

The rally is set to start at 8:30 a.m.

Greenpeace has told Channel 9 people will be holding signs, even solar panels to get their point across.

Duke Energy wants to offer homeowners 5 to 7 cents per kilowatt, the same rate they pay solar farms.

Duke Energy is currently paying homeowners 10 to 11 cents.

A company representative told Channel 9 is has been overpaying homeowners.

Duke Energy officials said it also has invested several billion dollars into solar and wind energies.
