Concord Fire Dept. evacuates nearby area after gas line hit

CONCORD, N.C. — Concord Fire Department evacuated nearby areas after a gas line was accidentally hit Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at the construction site for the new city hall, beside Market Street. Officials were urging people to stay away from the area.

A construction crew was doing site work. They were digging near a marked line, but then hit an unmarked service line going into a building.

Crews are monitoring the area with gas meters. They were able to clamp the leak around 4 p.m.
