Concord police working around clock to solve fatal shooting of 15-year-old

CONCORD, N.C. — Concord police have been working around the clock on the case of a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 15-year-old football player from J.M. Robinson High School.

Police are being very cautious in what information they release to the media in the case.

Mark Bostic Jr. was shot and killed in Concord Sunday night.

They are trying to move swiftly to make an arrest and along the way, they don't want anything to jeopardize the investigation.

"I heard the bam, bam, bam, bam, and I run back out here to the front to tell my granddaughter. I said, 'Sombody shooting,'" said Catherine Mason.

Mason, 85, said she was inside her home walking to the kitchen Sunday night when she heard the gunfire erupt.

"My granddaughter, she peeped out the window, she said she seen somebody that looked like they had something over their face.  I don't know what that was. It scared me to death," Mason said.

Channel 9 reporter Eric Philips asked Mason how many shots she heard.

"Five, if it wasn't five, it was six," she said.

Police said Bostic was riding in a car with this cousin and some friends.

They got into an argument with people in another car, police said.

Police said someone in that car fired and struck Bostic.

Police have the car the alleged shooter was in, but have not made an arrest.

Valerie Gill knew Bostic since elementary school and went to high school with him.

"He meant a lot to me. I took him as a brother," she said. "He was a good person. He was loving, caring."

Channel 9 spoke with family members earlier Tuesday who said they were heading to the funeral home to make final arrangements for Bostic.
