Construction starting soon on remake of former Bleachery site in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Developers appear to be zeroing in on a timeline to begin construction on a notable project in Rock Hill.

The Keith Corp., which is working with Springsteen Capital and Springs Creative, is leading The Thread, a mixed-use redevelopment of the former Bleachery site. The project calls for the remaking of a 400,000-square-foot building that has had a variety of uses dating back over 100 years. After plotting the project for years, The Keith Corp. is targeting the third quarter to begin construction on the project’s first phase.

Jay Coleman, office partner for The Keith Corp., said no specific date has been set for the construction start, but developers are looking to begin in the third quarter. He said the first phase would take 12 months to complete. Coleman led a tour of The Thread this week at an event hosted by the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance.

The project calls for redeveloping the building into around 340,000 square feet of office space and approximately 60,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space. The first phase, which would include around 200,000 square feet in total, is already fully permitted.
