County dedicates courtroom to domestic violence cases

CHARLOTTE — There is a new effort to get justice for survivors of domestic violence. Many of the victims have waited months, even years, for their day in court.

Channel 9 veteran crime reporter Mark Becker has followed the impact COVID-19 on courts in Mecklenburg County since the beginning.

“They have been waiting, and only waiting,” assistant DA Samantha Pendergrass said. “Families are in crisis.”

There is a courtroom dedicated to domestic violence and it handles up to 65 cases weekly.
